Contraindications

Artificial tanning is a great desire for many, but some precautions are necessary. The most suitable method to obtain a beautiful and healthy tan line is to go to specialized places with trained professionals.

However, not everyone can tan, such as:

• People who have undergone recent plastic surgery less than 6/9 months ago or without medical clearance;

• People with thrombosis or skin diseases;

• Tattoos less than 1 month old;

• Bruises on the skin can darken and stain the skin;

• Pregnant women CANNOT tan.

• People undergoing skin treatment with oxidizing products should wait until the treatment period is over to begin tanning.

• Laser hair removal is advisable to do 7 to 15 days after tanning.

• People with autoimmune diseases.

• Pacemaker wearers.

• People with a predisposition to skin cancer.

• Minors.

People who are not fed.

It is extremely important for every professional to seriously follow the contraindications of tanning because when they are not followed, they can cause enormous damage to the skin and psychologically harm the client.

SKIN TYPE 1: VERY FAIR SKIN, LIGHT EYES, BLONDE OR RED HAIR, ALWAYS BURN AND NEVER TAN.

SKIN TYPE 2: WHITE SKIN, LIGHT EYES, BLONDE OR LIGHT BROWN HAIR.

SKIN TYPE 3: WHITE SKIN, BROWN EYES AND HAIR.

SKIN TYPE 4: LIGHT BROWN SKIN, DARK BROWN EYES AND HAIR.

SKIN TYPE 5: BROWN SKIN, DARK EYES AND HAIR.

SKIN TYPE 6: BLACK SKIN, DARK EYES AND HAIR.

SKIN TYPE 1 In a classification proposed by Fitzpatrick of Harvard Medical School, 6 skin phototypes were determined, ranging from the lightest skin to the darkest skin, increasing according to the amount of melanin in each phototype and the type of reaction to sun exposure. The lower the phototype, the greater the care required, as the skin is more sensitive to damage caused by radiation.

We will discuss further in face-to-face class the care and tanning time that each phototype should have in their artificial tanning sessions.

Radiation

The light in the booths is ultraviolet light (UVA and UVB).

This radiation stimulates the production of vitamin D, while longer UVA waves penetrate deeper and reach keratinocytes in the epidermis and fibroblasts in the dermis, being responsible in the medium and long term for photoaging.

According to genetic factors, each person has an amount of pigment (melanin) that defines skin color, being classified according to the Fitzpatrick scale ranging from phototype I (lighter skin) to phototype VI (darker skin). Melanin, in addition to providing color to the skin, also plays an important role in sun protection, since the higher a person's phototype, the lower their sensitivity to UVA.

During sun exposure, ultraviolet rays are absorbed by our skin. If this exposure is prolonged to the point of causing that red, burning sensation, it means there has been excessive damage to the epidermis. Therefore, in order to defend itself and protect cellular DNA, our body increases the production of its natural photoprotector, melanin. This migrates to the more superficial layers of the skin, positioning itself over the nuclei of keratinocytes and preventing the radiation from reaching deeper. Consequently, darkening the skin and revealing a tan!

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Braziliantaptanning@braziliantaptanning.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

UVA rays are longer and penetrate deeper into the skin, causing premature aging and skin damage. UVB rays are shorter and cause sunburns and skin cancer.

It is recommended to use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher to protect the skin from damage and premature aging. However, it may limit the tanning process.

Indoor tanning provides a controlled environment with consistent exposure to UV rays, allowing for a more even and longer-lasting tan. It also allows for year-round tanning, regardless of weather conditions.
